The clients backyard was like most in the Mid-South, having a concrete back patio and a flat, grassy lawn. But they were looking for a backyard oasis, asking us to bring nature into their yard. This Aquascape ecosystem koi pond with waterfalls brought the sounds of bubbling water right next to their patio. The water garden also has an upgraded landscape package to bring beauty and elegance to the the space.
This water garden is 8′ x 8′ with two waterfalls, a shelf around the edge of the pond and a 2′ central zone for more depth, and a safe place for koi and goldfish. There’s no harsh chemicals in this water garden. The natural filtration system keeps the water clean and clear year-round with little maintenance.

The client really wanted to fill the space with life. While we knew the koi pond was going to be spectacular with Ozark boulders and Alabama Sunset Gravel, it was the LED lighting package and the extra plants that really brought the space to life. Our plan was to incorporate marginal water plants, a Japanese maple tree, and other plants to make the space feel natural. Plants included creeping jenny, blue rug juniper, plum yew, autumn fern, forget-me-not, coral bells heuchera, and hostas. Crushed black limestone gravel provided an elegant look to the surrounding area, making it easier to interact with.
