Outdoor Furniture That Survives a Memphis Summer

Memphis is hard on outdoor furniture. We sit in USDA zone 7b–8a with long stretches of 90-degree humidity, better than fifty inches of rain a year, punishing summer UV, a spring pollen season that coats everything, and just enough hard freezes to split anything holding water. Furniture that performs beautifully in Arizona or coastal California can look tired here in two seasons.

That is the filter we buy through. We are not trying to carry everything — we are trying to carry what still looks good on your patio in year five. Below are the materials that consistently earn their keep in the Mid-South, and the ones we steer people away from.

Powder-Coated Aluminum

The workhorse here. It will not rust, it is light enough to move, and the finish holds color through our summers. Wrought iron looks the part but rusts at every chip in our humidity.

Teak & Dense Hardwoods

Naturally oily and rot-resistant. Left alone it weathers to a soft silver-grey; oiled once a year it keeps its honey tone. Either way it tolerates our wet spring.

Resin Wicker Over Natural

HDPE resin wicker on an aluminum frame shrugs off moisture and UV. Natural rattan and untreated wicker will mildew and go brittle in a single Memphis summer.

Solution-Dyed Acrylic Fabric

The single biggest driver of how a set ages. Colour that goes all the way through the fibre resists fading and mildew; printed polyester surrenders to our sun fast.

Why Shop With Us

Why Memphis Homeowners Buy Their Outdoor Furniture Here

You can buy a patio set anywhere. What you cannot get from a warehouse aisle or a product photo is someone who will tell you that the frame you are looking at will chip and rust by the third summer, or that the sectional you love is eight inches too deep for your porch.

We design and build outdoor spaces for a living. Furniture is one piece of that, and we sell it the same way we design everything else — by asking what you actually want to do out there first.

Sit In It First

Depth, seat height, and back angle decide whether you use a chair. None of that survives a product photo.

Curated, Not Warehoused

A smaller floor of pieces we have watched hold up locally, rather than everything a catalogue will ship.

Straight Answers on Materials

We will tell you what fades, what rusts, and what mildews here — including when the cheaper option is fine.

The Whole Outdoor Room

Furniture, shade, lighting, containers, and water features planned together instead of bought piecemeal.

Continuing the Palladio Tradition

Our Design Center occupies the former Palladio Memphis on South Cox Street — for years the place Memphians went for garden and outdoor furnishings. We are carrying that forward with the same instinct for pieces worth living with, now backed by a team that designs and installs outdoor spaces across the Mid-South.

Common Questions About Outdoor Furniture

A few things Memphis homeowners ask us most often when they are shopping for patio and outdoor furniture.

Dining sets, deep seating and sofas, lounge and club chairs, chaises, bar and counter-height sets, fire pits and fire tables, umbrellas and shade, accent tables, and replacement cushions. Selection rotates seasonally, so call ahead at (901) 286-3302 if you are looking for something specific.

Yes, and we would rather you did. Everything on our Midtown floor is set up as a real outdoor room, so you can sit in the chairs, judge the scale, and see how pieces work together before committing.

Powder-coated aluminum is the most reliable frame for our climate — it will not rust in the humidity and the finish holds up to summer UV. Teak and dense hardwoods do well too. For cushions, solution-dyed acrylic fabric resists fading and mildew far better than printed polyester. We generally steer people away from wrought iron and natural wicker here.

Yes. We design and install outdoor living spaces across the Memphis area, so we can plan seating, shade, lighting, plantings, and water features together. You can schedule a design consultation or simply talk it through with someone on the floor.

Yes. Cushions usually wear out long before frames do, and replacing them is far cheaper than replacing a set. Bring measurements or photos and we will help you match them.

We are at 741 S Cox St in Midtown Memphis, at the former Palladio Memphis location. We are open Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 4:00pm.
